Dr. Milind Kale

Experienced, Compassionate Care

Welcome. I'm Dr. Milind Kale, a board-certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist with over 18 years of experience. I understand that seeking psychiatric care for yourself or your child is a significant step, often accompanied by valid concerns about medication and labels. As a physician and a parent, I share these concerns and have built my practice on a foundation of careful, collaborative, and evidence-based care.

My career has included serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University and as a trusted consultant for numerous Connecticut school districts, including Glastonbury, Manchester, and the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC). This background provides me with a unique perspective, especially when advocating for a child's needs within the educational system or providing clarity to families seeking a reassessment of a diagnosis.

My goal is to be your partner in wellness. I am here to listen, provide expert guidance, and work with you to find the best path forward.

My Approach to Care

I believe in doing the groundwork. A diagnosis is never a quick decision. It is the result of a meticulous process that respects the complexity of each individual and their circumstances.

Evidence-Based Tools

I utilize validated, standardized rating scales completed by multiple sources (parents, teachers) to gather objective data and see the full picture.

Family-Centric Treatment

You are the expert on your child. I work in close conjunction with parents and therapists, ensuring that the family is at the heart of the treatment plan.

Collaborative Advocacy

In school settings, I serve as a dedicated advocate for the child while understanding and respecting the school's perspective to find balanced, effective solutions.

Independent School Evaluations

Navigating the special education process can be challenging. I provide independent, comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for school districts and parents seeking diagnostic clarity to help inform the development of an effective Individualized Education Program (IEP). My process is thorough and designed to translate complex findings into practical, actionable recommendations.

The Evaluation Process

  1. 1. Comprehensive Document Review

The process begins with a thorough review of all relevant records, including current and past IEPs, 504 Plans, previous evaluations, academic records, and notes from school staff and outside providers.

  2. 2. Multi-Informant Clinical Interviews

I conduct a series of detailed interviews with the student, parents/guardians, and key school personnel (like teachers and psychologists) to gather a holistic view of the student's functioning at home and in school.

  3. 3. Standardized Rating Scales

To supplement clinical observations with objective data, I use evidence-based rating scales (such as BASC-3 or Conners-3), which are completed by parents and teachers to assess a broad range of symptoms.

  4. 4. Synthesis and Detailed Report

Finally, I synthesize all collected information into a single, comprehensive report. This document includes diagnostic impressions (DSM-5), a summary linking findings to educational impact, and a list of clear, actionable recommendations for the school team to consider.
